It was fun participating in a BaZi pop-quiz organized by JLim in the now ‘reborn’ fivearts.info forum… In this challenge, JLim asked;
“Today is Valentine's day. Let's have a quiz about love... and separation. Choose when this lady married and then quickly divorced; 2007 Ding Hai, 2009 Ji Chou, 2011 Xin Mao, 2013 Gui Si, 2015 Yi Wei. Please choose one year only, and your reasoning using any method (Bazi, ZWDS, Liu Yao, QMDJ, Meihua, Tarot, Mahjong divination etc.). +6 karma points for the correct answer with reasoning. A simple reasoning will do. No karma point for correct answer but without reasoning at all. The Chinese hour is correct with or without adjustment to solar time. I will announce the answer after at least 15 people participate. But I will only send my Bazi analysis by pm to those who participate.”
True enough, none of the 15 participants participated are BIG NAMES, liked – “You Know Who…”. Those participated are all small fries including JayTee. The Big Names have reputation to keep, imagine what if they answer wrongly? For the small fries liked JayTee, it is a good opportunity to test out their wits and to make sure that they are confident enough to just give – one answer, without having to revise their answer at one go… You just cannot simply say, maybe… might be… could be… in real audits. You have to know your arts well minus the guessing games. This challenge is even more interesting because, JLim wanted the participant to write down, how do they derive their decision… OMG… you must read the commentary as it is the most intriguing dynamics among the various arts on display from the so commonly known ZiPing to ‘No Name’ divination techniques all in one go – Superb! Yet, none of the 15 participants, I presumed, would have known who this BaZi chart belongs to…

Congratulations! I can see you're very happy with your victory and I'm happy for you too. But to be honest, if you are viewing wins and gains with such heavy importance, you're practising CM for the wrong reasons. CM is not to help you win things. Your objective is totally wrong.

And one day if you misses it (due to influences of other factors), you would be in similar magnitude, very grieved and disappointed, or even doubt your learnt knowledge. Edit: Which means to say, "Assurance Bubble".

What do you mean by "big names"? Hope you're not referring to me, I'm just an ordinary member. Not even a moderator, or members who have published books and have paying students.

For past guessing games (by Jlim, existentialistalbert and other members), all the existing members have their own fair share of hits and misses, including me. Goes to show CM method is not everything, there are other factors too. That is the most important lesson learnt; the "big picture".

If Trump and Timothy's chart was used as guessing game, how would you analyze it? Short lifespan or long life?

Personally I stopped participating in guessing games recently because I already see the big picture and deemed guessing games as really of a gambling/guessing nature. Like those guessing games you play in pubs. Eg; scissors, paper, stone game. I rather spend my time more on preparing and translating info to share with members, which I deem is more meaningful.

Jay, it's actually almost 30 people that participated in the quiz. 15 people is the minimum number of participants before I announce the answer.

I mostly observe you only hold guessing games, are you actually giving opportunities for people to gain karma pts in a fun way and learning more about the big picture?

I don't see gain or loses as what you say. I only look at the method that I use and the feedback that i got to write up this article... and it is not very sweet to say I practice for the wrong reason... Big names are famous masters now dotting the internet... not ordinary folks like you and me... this sort of quiz I dont usually join... ask those ppl in the forum, u will know... just because i am writing a few articles on bazi, it think it is ok for me to join in to see if the method i know still holds water... thats all.... if doing so offended u, I am sorry...

1. Do you want to only hear sweet things? Only your lover/partner will say sweet things to you. Wrong door you're knocking.

2. Actually I was afraid that you'd be offended when I say you're practising CM for the wrong reasons. If you think deeper, you'll see my meanings. No offence. Think and have an open mind.

3. If someday a case proved the method you knew and tested many times doesn't "hold water" anymore, will you be disappointed?

If it continues without publicly sharing the explanation for learning, it defeats the purpose of learning and enriching knowledge, and is as good as only a private game.

That's why I grew tired of such games, though I got some hits too and moved on.

Those who received the explanation, don't bother to send to my PM. I didn't participate.


edit: Yes I agree if the information is private, then by all means only post in PM. But I don't think published case studies are private, right?

As long as the person wishes to learn, the answer would be provided after participant initiated their thinking.  There were no other restrictions for the public as stated by the author.

Thus, consideration and arm length transaction was involved in this process.

@tyc : You're new to this new forum. In the past (2014~2015), there were not so many rules and restrictions in past guessing games. And answers and explanations were provided publicly to everyone regardless of whether they participated or not.

Too many rules and restrictions are kind of discouraging. But you may be a person who likes many rules and many restrictions. Not looking for your agreement too.

Hello @ArtofFugue,  I don' t want to convince you, just give my opinion. The answer and explanation have been publicly given. Only Jlim's own reading was given privately. This rule was stated beforehand in the game to INCOURAGE, and not discourage! participation.

IMHO there are no new rules in the Forum. Any member is allowed to organise a game like this and establish its rules, as long as the main forum guidelines are not violated.
