職業取向在十神 Career options and the Ten Gods

現在學習八字的人不少，各有各的原因。大部份學習者的態度，比起三十多年前，是理性得多了。那個時候，我看到很多術數師，每喜說「萬般皆是命，半點不由人」，意思是說命運是半點不能改，你相信嗎？在我看來，那是術數師們認為，他們自己改不了命運，你們也休想改變。

There are many people who are learning bazi, and each of these people have their own reasons for doing so. The attitude of the majority of the learners these days appears to be much more rational than those some 30 years ago (when I first started picking up bazi). At that time, many Chinese Metaphysics (“CM”) practitioners took the view 「萬般皆是命，半點不由人」or  "everything is fated, and nothing can be changed by man" which took the view that everything in life is predestined and cannot be changed. Do you believe this? In my opinion, that is because those CM practitioners probably believed that if they were not able to change their destiny, neither would others be able to.

我的想法當然跟他們大不相同，若命運改不了，那大家上學讀書做甚麼？！讀十多二十年書做甚麼呢！

My views were of course very different from them. If fate cannot be changed, why would anyone go to school? Why would anyone spend so many years pursuing academic excellence if everything is predestined and cannot be changed?

現在的人聰明多了，他們回歸到道家的初衷，學術數是為了「趨吉避凶」，若改不了，那麼這門學問，只會浪費大家時間。

People nowadays are much smarter. They have returned to the original roots of Taoism with the study of Chinese Metsphyscis to allow them to 「趨吉避凶」”harness the good and avoid the bad” . If fate or destiny can't be changed, then the time spent on all this knowledge would have been spent for nothing.

OK，那些燒冥鏹、改風水的改運方法，我暫且不論。就八字而論，如何改善你的命運？

For now I will leave out from this discussion the use of fengshui and / or offerings / rituals but will instead focus on the use of bazi to improve one’s destiny

學術數的人多會看過，藉着用神的五行所屬，來選擇你最適合的職業，這樣有效嗎？撇開命理不談，大家想一想，如果叫一個教書先生去投資股票，你認為合適嗎？他一生埋首於學術研究，對財務學識一竅不通，你卻只因為他八字「喜金」，然後查一查表，知道「金」所屬的五行包括 “Finance”, “Banking” … 等，於是貿然叫命主轉行去從事那種行業，你認為行嗎？

Many practitioners will understand the use of the five elements to choose one’s most suitable occupation but is this really effective? Let’s set aside CM for now and think about it, if we know a person, say a teacher whose favorable element is metal, do we ask that teacher to invest in the stock market? Do you think that would be appropriate? This person life has been focused on academic pursuits and knows nothing about finance, but because of his bazi 「喜金」"favors metal" and because the industries under metal favors "Finance" or "Banking" do we then ask such person to pursue a switch in career?  Do you think this would work for the person?

八字並不是這樣決定合適職業的，否則，天下間不懂八字的人，都無法找到合適的職業了。甚麼職業最合適，只有命主本人最清楚，他們只是因為有幾種選擇擺在面前，不知如何取捨，算命先生不可能在今天無窮無盡的職業種類中，選出來幾種來給命主建議。

Bazi shouldn’t be used in such a manner to determine one’s suitable occupation, otherwise, we will be saying that people who do not understand bazi will not be able to find the job that best suits them and that only the CM practitioner knows best what occupation is most suitable for the person. Only the destiny holder knows what occupation best suits them and usually the destiny holder really only has a few suitable choices available to choose from and just doesn’t know how to choose among such options. It would be impossible for the CM practitioner to choose from the unlimited occupations and advise the destiny holder.

決定命主的職業是他的性格！

What should determine one’s occupation should actually be his or her personality!

所以，每個人都可以用各種方法，判斷其性格，以挑選他們合適的職業。而八字只是其中一種判斷性格的工具而已！如果一個人很清楚他自己的性格，根本就無需要借助其他工具作分析。

Therefore, everyone should be able to use various methods to assess their personalities in determining their suitable career. And Bazi is but just one of the tools to assess their personality! If a person is very clear of his or her personality there would be no need for such a person to adopt any tool or framework for such analysis.

八字的格局，主宰着命主的性格，所以用八字的格局來判斷命主的成就高低及趨勢，就很順理成章了。

The structure of a bazi has a strong influence on the personality of the destiny holder so it is only logical to use the bazi structure to assess his or her career achievements and trends.

舉例來說，一個偏印格的八字，他就是喜歡藝術、專業技藝、自由業等，如果因為他的偏印五行屬金，因而你以為他適合銀行業、金融投資業等，並向他作出這方面的建議，那是大錯特錯！

For example, a destiny holder with an indirect resource structure is likely one who likes art, possesses professional skills, enjoys freelance, etc., but if this indirect resource destiny holder’s favorable element is gold, and because banking or financial investments, etc. are ‘metal’ industries, and you recommend him to pursue a change to one of these industries would be very wrong!

選職業應以格局為先，正確方法是，假設這位朋友八字中的偏印屬金，那麼，你不妨問他，喜歡向哪方面發展他的藝術事業，然後從他自己心目中的幾個選項中，選出一種較具屬金性質的，如果職業的五行性質並不那麼明顯，那就該直接選取他最擅長的職業來發展。這才是正確的職業選取方法。

The choice of one’s career should first consider the structure of the bazi. The correct approach would be to advise a destiny holder with an indirect resource structure favoring metal to pursue an artistic profession that is most “metal-like”. If the nature of the job isn’t very easily defined, the person should just go ahead and choose what he is best equipped or suitable for. This should be the right approach towards choosing the right career.

There's one important point in  that stands out n your post which many practitioners don't seem to be aware.  It's not the job of the practitioner to dictate client's life path.  It's the client's free will, environment, knowledge, feng shui etc that determines their options. Dictating a client's purpose is ego and not tailoring to client skills and character. hence the more evolve way of consulting is to make it two way involving the client.  Even the western field of consulting life coach or any type of therapy is more geared toward client-centered approach rather then dictating bring told what to do which is of the old style.

In the old days it was just one way as if the practitioners were some fortune teller/messiah/god like authority guru figure of one's life. Many people are still doing it this way cuz they are stubborn and don't know how to update their learning to help client for better accuracy.

You reap what you sow .  Do you know that phrase? It means one's trouble is due to one's action.  It goes both ways. good actions usually bring good stuff. bad actions brings bad stuff.   Those that think doing bad will bring good,  tough lesson for them. haha.  Another example is if you choose wrong field in wrong era, then harder to be successful. For example choosing traditional  painting/ art  in this era is very hard to make money. Most is digital art working with computers. The art type that is in galleries can't make much money.   So it's 'you reap what you sow' proverb in action. Because choosing wrong field don't result in one's success but hardships. Some career easier to make it big due to era timing. computer programming is easy money this day and age as there is lots of openings. Not easy to learn programming but easy to make money once you have the skill in the field. That's just one example of choosing a field for good livelihood. not everyone wants to do computer programming though. Weigh cons and pros for whatever field.

Making preparation to gain knowledge and wisdom to better life is part of action.  chart guide isn't 100%. There is too many other variables such as life circumstance. And it has to be read correctly. Wrong reading and one will be guided wrong. So having proper reading  from ethical pros. Or read it yourself and take that responsibility. Never should one put trust in another when it comes to major career choice in one's life. I think bazi is pretty major in affecting one's life,  so better be sure it's someone you trust.

  Don't put so much emphasis on the choosing of career and that's it.  The career has to be in relation to sucess and how it affect your life style. Majority of college students choose career and that's it. No deeper focus on how to make that career into lifestyle.   That's just the first step of career being suitable to you. You will change you career depending on timing , generation era and phase of life anyways. Everything is about timing.  Matters most is the action part to learn the necessary skills to fulfill your job or to figure out whatever career is good for you. You can only do that through exploration and knowing yourself. Self cultivation is a must always for everyone no matter what as without it , there isn't growth. without growth there is no progress.  If one don't no one's own interest then how do one know what one like? Know theyself to know where to go. The lucky cycles help one reach closer to goal as their is less resistance. It still don't mean one don't have to work with effort.

 Some people are lazy after being told that they have fortune yet they got no where due to no action because they believe what's told. In this world more so for success is the human action that  create the lifestyle one wants. Not only that, people skills is important as no one lives alone or can survive alone. There is bound to be help along the way or resistance if one is rude to all and think they are king.

Don't listen to naysayers too. All they do is bitch and complain and attack out of jealousy. They too busy with their own egos trying to drag others down cuz they are jealous with envy. Most people don't know deadly about what you can achieve and who you are.  It's all talk to them. That's why the most successful people don't listen to naysayers and just do what they need to do to be successful. You will hear it time and again about their bio life story of how they make it big.

Most people aren't successful with first career degree choice anyways. they often end up doing many multiple career mix up and in different field from what they learned.  I guess what i'm saying is be flexible and not so strict as time change things. =o)

I'm just assuming your trying to figure out which career area to go into. so these are some tips.  If useful then consider it. If not then let it go.
