within Phlegm a patient can carry germs of viruses the may transmit to healthy persons by the time throu touch etc. ...!!!
...
Correction : maybe or maybe not transmit to another healthy person ...

Visible Phlegm's causative factor is mainly due to unhealthy eating and bad lifestyle ..

This is very deep subject, maybe need thousand of reincarnations to find the answer.  ;D
The answer can open the pandora box.
Tao : return to Void (Wu Chi), Buddhism : return to Nirvana.

The main question : Why do you want to know ?

I agree with you so much @chary .. I don't know how to open such discussions  .. !!
Will be very profound and deep... but much interesting  ...!!

@voglee

Without suffering, there is no enlightenment.
And once you become a Buddha, there would be no notion of enlightenment to you.
The notion of enlightenment exist only in this cycle of samsara.
I very strongly suspect that quote you gave, purportedly made by Buddha, is false, i.e. not made by a Buddha.

Nhat Hanh is still on a very long learning process.
His sayings may resonate well with some people on similar learning process, but not with all people with varying levels of learning process.

If you understand sufferings, enlightenment, Buddhahood, and your "I" identity, you would not need to quote anyone.
Dear @Maverick .. hi
My quotation is simple yet meaningful  .. !!
Isn't based on "writings of what Buddha said " .. but encompasses all philosophical  tradition flourished in India.
To be enlighted and "become a Buddha " .. is not necessarily follows of what "Buddha said "  .. althout we don't know what exactly Buddha said ..( the real teaching is hidden inside the so many Sutras of Buddhism  ).
