Star brightness level

1. The original 7 levels of star brightness has been regrouped to fewer levels, same practice as Master Tony Tan as I agree with him that we don’t really need so many levels. Though the difference is, I follow Emperor’s Stargate’s 4 levels while Master Tan uses 3 levels.
2. Some stars have unknown brightness. Some stars do not reside in certain squares at all.
3. Some ZWDS sects/schools may or may not use/regard star brightness in their analysis. Each to their own. No labelling of any sect/school’s teachings/methods as “more superior” or “incorrect”. Each sect/school has its own merits and uses, respect each and every sect/school.
4. Star brightness from my own notes and ZWDS books I owned. If there’s any mistake or different from what your sect/school practises, do let me know. I’m interested to see the differences too.

Take note: Some ZWDS sects/schools have specific brightness levels for Hua Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji.

Use what you feel is relevant and comfortable to you.

For comparison of Zhong Zhou sect's method of plotting stars with conventional sect's method.

The most obvious differences are dark Emperor @ dragon square and dark Treasury Vault @ rooster square in ZZ sect. In conventional sect, we do not have interpretations for dark Emperor and dark Treasury Vault because these 2 stars will never be dark.

If you compare minor stars, you'll see differences in not just brightness level but also "blanks".

Like for example; "Blank" in ZZ sect table but a brightness level in conventional sect table. "Blank" means that particular star will never be plotted in that square, whereas in conventional sect that particular star can be plotted in that square. This itself is a big difference. Eg; Stardust @ tiger square.

So people who use anything (methods, techniques) from Zhong Zhou sect, do take note. But of course, it is still up to you.

Check out this patent for a Zi Wei Dou Shu software, https://www.google.com/patents/US20090162815#backward-citations , there's a brightness level list on it (if you scroll down a little more than half way) that seems to contradict the scans, what do you this about this?

Hi. Thank you for sharing this. I would like to ask.
What does this brightness actually do? I read that if it is bright, it will show the good parts of the stars. And if it is dark, it will show more the bad side.
But what if the star itself is considered bad, such as void and punishment? What if these bad stars brightness is dark? Does it mean the opposite or becomes worse instead? And what if these bad stars is bright? Does it mean that the bad side is reduced?
