  • How to include videos from youtube and other sources?
    « on: January 03, 2017, 12:07:35 AM »
I have installed new tool that enable some videos from well known source such as youtube that directly playable in your browser.

To use it, just post the video url and it will automatically embedded.

Awesome, thank you! I think the default size is too big though. Is it possible to make them smaller? That would save us a lot of scrolling. ;)

I don't know what is the best size. I did a quick search and get this 480x360 recommendation. Changed to default size because it looks weird on some video / in PC screen. Let me find better solution.

I have an old laptop and it takes a while to load a page full of videos like those in the music section. :(

me too. It takes much time to load that music topic. The embed tool I installed only has default video size (dimension) or one fixed size. If I use fixed size then it look weird for any other size other than the size I have put in.

Do you think we could find a better tool/plugin? This one makes the music section almost unusable for me. :(

There are only 2 tools for this purpose one is free (currently we are using) another need money. The issue is not about money but the compatibility with many video sources:

    Quote
    BET   BlogDumpsVideo   BlogTV
    Bungie.net   buto.tv   Clipfish.de
    Clipmoon   Clipshack   Clipsyndicate PlayLists
CNN iReport   College Humor   Comedy Central
    coub.com   Crackle   DailyMotion
    Deezer.com   Espn   Facebook
Facebook Pictures   Facebook Video   Facebook Video (New v4)
Facebook Video (New v5)   Facebook Video (New)   Funnyordie.com
    G4tv   Gametrailers   Goear
    Google Maps   Google Video   HostingBulk.com
    HostingCup   IGN   Instagram
    Izlesene.com   JibJab   Joystiq
    Jpopsuki.tv   LiveLeak   Local AVI
Local FLV   Local MOV   Local MP4
Local Ogg   Local RA   Local RAM
Local RM   Local SWF   Local Webm
    Local WMA   Local WMV   Mail.ru
    MarketNewsVideo   Mefeedia   Metacafe
    Mevio   Movshare.net   Mpora
    MySpace   MyVideo.de   Novamov
    NyTimes   own3d.tv   PBS
    PinkBike.com   Rambler.ru   Reuters
    Rutube   SchoolTube   Seenive
    Sendvid   Sevenload   Smotri
    SoundCloud   Stagevu   Stream.cz
    Tangle.com   TinyPic.com   TNT
    Trophy-clips.com   Trtube   Twitch.tv
    Twitvid   UStream.tv   Veoh
    VH1   VideoBB.com   Vimeo
    Vine   Worldstarhiphop.com   XFire
    Yahoo   Youku   Youtube
Youtube Short Url   Zippyshare   Zippyshare 2

I found 3 reasons for slowness:

    1. internet speed
    2. playing multiple video simultaneously
    3. slow computer

Try not to play multiple videos. Or open the video at youtube website.

I've read an interesting article A Better Method for Embedding YouTube Videos on your Website.

"It is easy to embed a YouTube video but you’ll be surprised to know how much extra weight that embedded YouTube video can add to your web pages. The browser has to download about half a Mb of extra JavaScript files (see screenshot) for rendering the YouTube video player alone. And these files are downloaded even if the visitor never plays the embedded video.
The embedded video not only increases the byte size of your web pages but the browser has to make multiple HTTP requests to render the video player. This increases the overall loading time of your page thus affecting the page speed score."

Maybe that is the reason why my browser slows down when loading a page with 10-15 embedded videos.

    @CyanCat

there is another way. You can change your forum setting to show only 5 posts per page in order to minimize the loading pressure. See attachment for the steps.
