Ziping Zhenquan Pingzhu translated (Chapter 1, part 1)
« on: February 16, 2014, 09:57:34 AM »
Hi all,

Please find below an amateur’s translation of the first chapter of Ziping Zhenquan Pingzhu (ZPZQPZ)

Note: This is a basic translation as I’m just a Bazi beginner. So, two things:
• There are better translations of ZPZQPZ. For example, by *Sx*, trey, or borneo219 (regarding the latter two, see their blogs).
• I leave interpretation of the text to the experts.

Cheers,

[Original text]
1-49. Why, repeat, have Yín(t) and Măo?
1-50. Given that Jiă and Yĭ are divided into Yīn and Yáng, Heaven and Earth(h) as said.

1-51. Consider Jiă and Yĭ as divided into Yīn and Yáng,
1-52. Then, Jiă is Yáng,
1-53. Yĭ is Yīn,
1-54. Wood’s movement is from Heaven, and is Yīn and Yáng.
[Translator’s note: the ‘(t)’ in ‘Yín(t)’ is to differentiate it from that of Yīn-Yáng.]

1-55. Consider Yín(t) and Măo as Yīn and Yáng,
1-56. Then, Yín(t) is Yáng,
1-57. Măo is Yīn,
1-58. Wood is stored on Earth(h), and is Yīn and Yáng.

1-59. Consider Jiă and Yĭ, Yín(t) and Măo, as altogether divided into Yīn and Yáng,
1-60. Then Jiă and Yĭ is Yáng, Yín(t) and Măo is Yīn,
1-61. Wood in Heaven, completed image; and on Earth(h), completed form.

1-63. 而寅卯受之;
1-62. Jiă and Yĭ moves from Heaven,
1-63. And Yín(t) and Măo accepts this;
1-64. Yín(t) and Măo stores within,
1-65. And Jiă and Yĭ bestows, how?
1-66. Indeed, Jiă and Yĭ are like officers-in-charge,
1-67. Yín(t) and Măo are like [subordinate] local administrators.

1-68. Jiă’s Thriving is in Yín(t),
1-69. Yĭ’s Thriving is in Măo,
1-70. Like prefecture officer in county,
1-71. District officer in city,
1-72. And each in charge of a month’s command.
[Translator’s note: In line 1-68, ‘Thriving’ is a life stage.]

[Xu’s interpretation]
1x43. Jiă and Yĭ both have source,
1x44. Together coming from heaven’s Qì.

1x46. 其勢方張;
1x45. Jiă is Yáng, harmonizes with beginning movement,
1x46. Its power is directionally wide;
1x47. Yĭ harmonizes with warming Shēngqì,
1x48. As seen in plants’ sprouts.

1x52. 故雲行乎天;
1x49. Although together are wood,
1x50. Yet their natures are different.
1x51. Jiă and Yĭ are spreading Qì,
1x52. Thus said: moves from Heaven;
1x53. Yín(t) and Măo are seasons’ sequence,
1x54. Thus said ‘stored on Earth(h)’.

1x55. Spreading Qì accords with seasons and transforms,
1x56. Thus Jiă and Yĭ together have Yín(t) and Măo as roots,
1x57. And Hài, Wèi and Chén, all are roots.
1x58. (See below Yīn-Yáng; Birth-stage, Death-stage chapter).

1x59. A heavenly stem rooted in Month Commander,
1x60. Is prosperous Qì,
1x61. Timely season, obtain usefulness,
1x62. The most celebrated,

1x63. Otherwise, although obtain usefulness,
1x64. But strength insufficient,
1x65. Similar to a prefecture or district officer,
1x66. Not obtain season, obtain location,
1x67. Then not get orders to execute command,
1x68. Not able to exhibit his talent.

1x69. Ten stems indeed are five elements,
1x70. Being divided into Yīn and Yáng,
1x71. In discussing their use,
1x72. Have Yáng stem and Yīn stem, each is different.

1x73. Dī Tiān Suǐ says:
1x74. ‘Five Yáng follows Qì, not follow power,
1x75. Five Yīn follows power, a merciless relationship’.

1x81. 而不能從;
1x76. Now, Yáng stems are like a noble person,
1x77. With Yáng’s firm nature,
1x78. So long as four pillars partially have roots,
1x79. Or Resource has roots,
1x80. Although weak reverts to weakness,
1x81. Yet cannot follow;
[Translator’s note: After line 1x81, the source text had ‘五陰則不然,四柱略有根,或印有根,則弱歸其弱,而不能從’, a replication error, I removed it.]

1x82. Five Yīn yet otherwise,
1x83. If four pillars, Wealth and Officer on the side flourishing,
1x84. Then Follow Wealth and Officer,
1x85. Even if daymaster somewhere has root sprouting,
1x86. Perhaps connected to Month Commander’s Qì,
1x87. Also disregard.

1x88. Say perhaps Resource-Corded has roots,
1x89. Then also not suspect self [i.e. daymaster] weak,
1x90. Not dread counter or control.
1x91. The Yīn stem and Yáng natures differ.

1x92. Example, Wŭ Tíngfāng’s chart:
1x93.
Yĭ Jĭ Dīng Rén
Hài Măo Wèi Yín(t)

1x94. Jĭ earth although rooted in Month Commander,
1x95. But seeing wood’s power flourishing,
1x96. Indeed follows wood,
1x97. Called ‘Follow Power, Merciless’.
1x98. (See below Useful God chapter).

1x99. Another example, Yán Xíshān’s chart:
1x100.
Dīng Yĭ Xīn Guĭ
Hài Yŏu Yŏu Wèi

1x101. Yĭ wood, so long as has Resource rooted,
1x102. Not scared that self is weak,
1x103. Killings penetrating, is controlled,
1x104. Indeed is a noble structure.

1x105. Another example, Xǔ Shìyīng’s chart:
1x106.
Xīn Yĭ Xīn Guĭ
Sì Chŏu Yŏu Yŏu

1x107. [Of persons] ten, nine erroneously regards this as Follow Killings,
1x108. Not realize Resource-Corded has roots,
1x109. Indeed not suspect self weak,
1x110. Still favors to control Killings’ luck-period.

1x111. This again is Yīn stem’s special point.
1x112. (See below Structure’s Grade chapter).

1x113. Yáng stem, then otherwise,
1x114. Example, Yú Hédé’s chart:
1x115.
Jĭ Gēng Bĭng Dīng
Măo Wŭ(h) Wŭ(h) Măo

[Translator’s note: the ‘(h)’ in ‘Wŭ(h)’ is to differentiate it from that of the stems.]

1x116. Gēng metal although weak,
1x117. Penetrating Resource has roots,
1x118. Indeed cannot follow,
1x119. Body weak, self is then weak,

1x120. If luck-period element supports self’s location,
1x121. Naturally riches-and-honor,
1x122. Unusual toiling.
1x123. That is a different point.

1x124. Yet Yáng stem also not absolutely cannot follow,
1x125. Example, late Qīng’s Xuāntǒng’s chart:
1x126.
Rén Rén Gēng Bĭng
Yín(t) Wŭ(h) Yín(t) Wŭ(h)

1x127. Resource, Friend, all without roots,
1x128. Thus cannot but follow.
1x129. This is called ‘Follow Qì, not Follow Power’.

1x130. The principle is very deep,
1x131. Not able to hurriedly understand,
1x132. Students, many read Bāzì,
1x133. But experience has to be accumulated over time,
1x134. Oneself must comprehend,
1x135. Not just in written words can realize.

1x138. 實為最深;
1x136. (Examine original chapter’s Discussing Stems and Branches Natures,
1x137. Although is just a beginning step,
1x138. Truly it’s most profound;

1x139. Destiny Pattern’s deeply thought idea,
1x140. Indeed is stem and branch’s Yīn and Yáng natural difference,
1x141. Students not harmed by setting aside diagram [Insert 1A],
1x142. Waiting to research and study introductory later,
1x143. Naturally must know its importance).

Wŭ Tíngfāng’s chart based on Wikipedia birth date 30 July 1842 is still a passive chart.

Note the favourable 1896, 1902 and 1907 years where his favourable authority elements showed up.
