For Liu Yao, 6 kins of Future hexagram needs to be re-allocated according to element of Mother Hexagram of Original Hexagram.

I think may be good idea to look into some theory so we try to understand what is happening in the cases someone is setting the relations(Parent/Officer etc.) based on the second hexagram element.
We can guess it is valid in some way, since there are people that get results doing that as well, but it is clearly different. To see why we need to get more into what is actually going on when making the Hexagrams.
That way can also explain what happens when we try to work with inactive lines in the second hexagram, will just point to it, everyone is free to make their own reasoning how it would work based on the rest, so there aren't conflicts.

So we ask a question. Then we create(in some way) a Hexagram. That hexagram is working as a map of the influences in a specific situation.

One hexagram on the left(initial map) and one on the right of how this influences will create a new situation and the map there.

(random hexagram used before, we won't use it, since here is theoretical approach for any hexagram)

If we look at the first hexagram(left one) that are the influences and images that come with them in the initial situation.
We are on Ti usually. Our reflection in the environment when it comes to the question is on Yong.
In this way we can view the question as a mirror that is moving between Ti and Yong, splitting everything in the way we formulate it. They are still reflection of each other, but how they are reflected will depend on what we ask about.

(Image from Jou Tsung Hwa's book)

So we have everything that we will split to Ti and Yong(us and the environment, so Yang and Yin) and in this situation the question is Tao, the path between them, the mirror that is deciding what part of everything will fall into Ti and what into Yong.

    Example:
    • We ask if we are going to get promotion in our company(where we work at). Now, here Ti is us, Yong is our company. From the whole world viewed as one in Wu Chi we split it up to two parts. Us and what we ask about are where this parts gather and we view the focus there as Ti and Yong.
Since we ask about gaining authority the Useful God(the line we focus our view on) will be Officer line, since that will show what is happening with the influence of "authority" in the situation. If we gain authority in some way promotion will happen, if authority is against us we probably won't.
    • However if we change the question and ask if we are going to get a promotion, the mirror moves. It is still splitting Wu Chi into two parts, creating Tai Chi, however in this case the splitting line(tao) moves in a different way, making some things part of Ti that waren't before and same for Yong.
In this case Yong will start to be more connected to images of promotion, while the physical place(the empty house) of the company can be showed by other lines, for example Resource on second line may show a building where that can happen etc.
In that case still useful god is Officer, however now that may be more connected to a boss or someone in authority that iwll make the final decision, since the promotion itself is already on Yong.

That is for Ti and Yong. But the real work is usually more connected to the relations.
So we have some elements that have authority(are in control).
They will be marked with Officer.
We have elements that will be on same level as us, that would be sibling etc.

All this is based on the initial situation.

However lets say a line moves. That will create new situation. For example someone will be motivated to bring a change.

But to see what change that will bring in relation to what is going on now, we need to look in the future and see how his line related to his line now.

    • So lets say someones line moves from Officer to Child and they ask about their work.
Here we can see influence of someone having authority and losing that authority.
We can say "demotion" or for some reason loss of authority may happen, since in the initial map/situation/hexagram they have authority while in the situation after the change they don't.

However if we are using relations based on the element of the second hexagram something different happens. In that situation they still move from Officer, but they may end up having any other place since the relation isn't based on the first role/situation.

So lets say we have someone that joins law enforcement carrier and ask about work. There line could move(just to clarify the idea, don't have actual example with that), from Asset to Officer for example. They will create authority in their position in the situation/map of influences/hexagram(since Assets creates Officer).

However that is authority in relation to the world we have in the first hexagram.
Based on their new job, in relations to the colleagues and people around them they don't have more authority then anyone else, since all around them are also working in law enforcement and they are asking about work and second hexagram will show the new situation in their work.
They would have more authority in relations to the first situation, since they joined law enforcement and that would have authority over people in their old job, probably, but we can't see that looking at the second situation, because in it they already have that authority shared with everyone else that works with them. So it isn't something that is standing out in the situation, it is same as everyone else around them.

In that sense if we use relations based on the second hexagram, it needs different way of reading. There are some questions where that would be more useful and situation when it won't be. But in general we just have to be aware what is showing and how to read it, once we are we can use any of them or even both of them switching to get even more info(Officer from the point of view of the first hexagram - joined law enforcement, Child from the point of view of second hexagram - his co-workers doesn't really see him as someone with authority, still people around him in the first hexagram would).

So in that situation what do we do with the inactive lines?
Well, the lines from the first hexagram aren't creating them, since they aren't moving(if they moved the second hexagram will be different).
I don't want to go into it directly, but think about it logically. They are in the position of the lines in the first hexagram... But they doesn't have relation with them, so are they the same lines?
Up for everyone to test/think/guess and figure out what they want to use, as always is. : )

    ............

Weak and non-moving lines have no use, usually.

Not every component on the hexagram chart is useable/interpretatable/has meaning.

That part was in connection with the other topic, where we mention that they are used in the Super I Ching material.

Lets view some basic rules of how we can approach the reading of the Hexagram in WWG.
Just what I'm familiar with, of course there are other ways, although much of what will be mention is more or less used in most styles.

Ti - Person asking(with some exceptions, see below)
Day of asking - influences currently active("its the right time for...")
Month of asking - climate, static / structure influences in the time of asking("its the right place for...") (more on that below)

Asking in the right time but wrong place, is usually better then the opposite. Place can change, if the time isn't right most of the time it just won't work out very well. In that sense Day is stronger then Month as influence.

First important idea is that the Hexagram is like a map of influences in a given situation. Bringing images to branches, animals, 6 relations etc. we can try to figure out what this influences will apply to.

So we have 6 easy to see, basic influences in first Hexagram and we have the time, Day and Month of asking.
To read it we need to be able to start assigning influences to different parts of the situation and see how strong they are based on time of asking. Are they in the right time and place.

For this helpful are Ti and Yong.
Right now we just look at Ti and the way it interacts in the Day and Month of asking.
The way I'm working with that Ti will represent the person asking if they are asking for themselves.
That means if we are asking a question related to ourselves it will always show Ti as us.

Now, if we ask for someone else things may get a lot more complicated, because on the first step will come up the question = "Is there influence/relation between us and the person we ask about that may need to show in the reading?"
If there is, then instead of that person showing on Ti, they will move to Yong. As our relation to them is more important then we realize, that relation will show up and it will show up between Ti and Yong, setting us on Ti, them on Yong and showing the relation.

How to know if that has happened?
Just need to be aware of your relation with the person asking and try to figure out what the system is showing... If it doesn't make sense for the given question, try to figure out what it is showing then.
To avoid that we often ask the person asking the question to make their own Hexagram. While it may still show something else at least we know we won't influence it.
More info on that aspect in one of the old Puppy posts somewhere around.

So Ti is us, most of the time.
    That is nice first step.

Just from this we can check the strength of Ti line in the month and day.
And we view Month as a big structure, establishment etc. Something that is influencing the whole situation, much like a climate would influence every question about outdoor activity, or the general values of a company would influence questions about workplace in it.

Looking at strength of Ti in the month we can figure out if we are supported in the situation, by the place/situation we are in. The difference between trying to light a candle in a bright summer day and doing it during a snowy winter.
In first case it won't take effort at all, in second one may need a lot of other supporting lines/influences to be able to do it properly.
Now, as we have Ti and Month influences, this is already a lot of information even if it doesn't seem so. We have our position in the situation and we have how strong that position is in the "climate" of the situation we ask about.

    Lets view the day.
The day would be the time of asking. So while the Month is more like a influencing structure, background to everything happening, the Day would be the strongest influence for the current time.

If we look at month as the difference of lighting fire in Summer/Winter, then the day would be lighting a fire during a calm evening and during a storm. In first case even in winter it would be doable, while in the second case it probably just won't happen.
Considering that we can say that Day influence is stronger then month.
Just with the info here we are able to see our position in each hexagram we make and how it related to the time we ask in. Of course, that is important.

Hopefully that can be helpful for some general idea of how to approach first few steps in reading a hexagram in WWG.
